Getting Started

I have decided that I should begin sharing some of the years of front line, front page and first responder  role that I have been witness to over the last 17 years.  This blog will give insight, guidance, revelation, and simplicity to the real life issues that have been in my office since 1995.   It may also bring laughter and irony - a mentally healthy person must be able to laugh at themselves first.  Remember that if you remember anything I ever write.
For starters - I am a voracious reader - I set a 'standard' not even a 'goal' of reading at least one book a week 30 years ago.  I have probably exceeded that every year since because in my field I need to be constantly updating myself - so two books -one nonfiction/work related along with a book for either pleasure every week. Book group selections or current events is my other.  I received a Kindle 2 years ago and have read more than 150 books on that - who knew that I could now even faster and more often than I already did!
I read a wide variety of authors, subjects, classics, novels, along with texts on my career field of Counseling and addictions.   My favorite furniture was bookshelves but my Kindle is beginning to eliminate their need!  After helping my mother downsize 3 years ago I decided that collecting books was a very heavy burden when they need to be relocated!  Only a true book lover understands what being surrounded by the presence of books feels like.  It's evidence of love.  It's evidence of enjoyed hours.  It's evidence of appreciation of the power of words, the voices of others, the education shared.  I will share my favorites along the way.
Blogs have become a new 'book.'   I don't know about you but I enjoy blogs.  What I really enjoy is when others share their personal and individual stories and insight that 'fair minded' papers often don't.  I love when those commenting share experiences that give new light, facts or exposure to issues that journalists or professors miss.  I hope my readers do the same.  It is the details and firsthand experiences of life that teach us the most.
I am going to try to keep this Blog focused on the psychological issues that I see every day.  I want to expand on the headlines and front page stories that you may read each day - but I see in my office - what happens after the cops leave, the person is buried, the bill paid, the lawyer gets a conviction, the mother cries, the daughter screams. . .
So bear with me as I get my bearings in my own blog - and hopefully make just one person think differently, open a mind, heal a pain, expose an issue, encourage a person struggling, calm a fear, make someone laugh and do what I do best - empower others one day at a time.
As I build confidence I will be writing longer Ebooks that can be used for life application - but today I will start with welcoming my first readers and hope that you return regularly whether for simple curiousity or the desire to be more enlightened, encouraged or empowered.
Thank you for your precious time!
